South Jakarta, July 12, 2026 – The younger generation is considered a key factor in accelerating the development of the Islamic economy in Indonesia. Amid rapid digital transformation and changing economic patterns in society, young people are no longer merely consumers but also entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators who can help build an inclusive and sustainable Islamic economic ecosystem.
This view was conveyed by Ferry Hariawan, Director of PT Pesonna Optima Jasa (POJ), part of the Pegadaian Group, when he served as a speaker at Sharia Future Talks: Building the Future of the Islamic Economy with the Young Generation, organized by the South Jakarta chapter of the Islamic Economic Society (MES).
In his presentation, Ferry explained that technological developments have changed the way people work, conduct transactions, and access financial services. Therefore, digital transformation needs to be balanced with the principles of fairness, transparency, accountability, and healthy partnerships in order to generate sustainable economic growth.
“Islamic economics is not only about promoting economic growth, but also ensuring that every business activity is carried out based on the principles of honesty and transparency while providing benefits for all parties,” said Ferry.
According to Ferry, the implementation of Islamic economic values can be realized through business transformation. POJ is expanding collaboration with various Islamic banking institutions, developing digital-based agent businesses, and strengthening its vehicle rental business, including electric vehicle (EV) fleets.
“Islamic businesses are not solely focused on financial profit but also consider their social and environmental impact. Innovations such as electric vehicles demonstrate that the Islamic economy can develop in line with technological advancements and sustainable development agendas,” Ferry explained.
POJ currently manages more than 25,000 workers through outsourcing services across various sectors and is also developing vehicle rental partnership programs within the ride-hailing ecosystem.
As part of the event series, POJ donated two laptop units to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).
“Young people have both the opportunity and responsibility to become key contributors to the development of the Islamic economy through innovation, entrepreneurship, responsible investment, and the wise use of technology,” Ferry concluded.
Through its active participation in Sharia Future Talks, PT Pesonna Optima Jasa hopes to continue strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders in promoting inclusive, competitive, and sustainable Islamic economic growth. In line with its commitment as part of the Pegadaian Group, POJ will continue to deliver business innovations that create added value for society, expand employment opportunities, and support the national development agenda toward a more advanced and prosperous Indonesia.
